Maras is a small town located west of Cusco, at 3300 meters above sea level, on a plain that in the past was a plateau where you could see different snow-filled mountains.

Inside the town we will find the Sanctuary of Tiobamba, a colonial church built of sun-dried brick with typical religious architecture, where you can find Cuzco paintings that represent the Last Supper, Jesus and the apostles.

“the Maras Salineras” are found in this town. You can get there on foot along a bridle path or you can also get there by car on an unpaved road.

These salineras are also known as the “salt mines”; they are formed by about 3000 small wells with an area of about 5 m2 each.
